"Take the proven hull of a sea rescue boat, add on another couple of metres, give her a luxury fit out, and you have the Westcat Explorer 40"
Westcats 40' powercat hull is taken from the same mould used to produce the 10m rescue vessel being used sucessfully by the Fremantle Sea Rescue Group. With over 3000hours and 30,000 nautical miles on the clock its a well proven hull. The technique of resin infusion has been employed in this hull, reducing the overall weight, and increasing the strength. A 1:1 resin to glass fibre ratio is possible and means a faultless layup. Westcat is the first boat builder in Western Australia to build a resin infused power catamaran to survey.
Designed by Fremantle marine architect Mark Ellis, the large buoyant sponsons, long wavebreaker and high tunnel combine to produce a ride that is nothing short of fantastic. The Explorer 40 performs fantastically in head, following and beam seas. Power options from 350hp upwards are recommended, and are capable of propelling the craft in excess of 32kts, and can be installed in shaft, stern or jet configuration.
"The fine, sleek hulls made mince meat out of the conditions as the solid structure ploughed through the waves"
